Thank you Cameron Hughes for sponsoring this post. Capture the celebratory spirit of the holidays, and toast to the season with Cameron Hughes wine!
The title says it all, folks! Cheap date ideas FTW, ha. Who says you need to spend hella cash to have a good time with your SO? My bf and I like to splurge every once in a while, but we’re all about affordable living so we’re constantly thinking of ways to keep things interesting without spending too much. We’re currently long distance so that makes things easier – at least from a financial standpoint – but we’re still as sensible as can be when we’re together. Ha, see what I did there? Anywho, I’m going to stop being cheesy and tackle the heart of today’s post: 5 cheap date ideas that’ll rock your world this holiday season.
1. Have a dinner cook off. Don’t worry, no one expects you to be the next masterchef…unless you are! This is supposed to be fun, but then again, a little competition never hurt nobody. Am I right? Be as elaborate or as simple as you want. If you guys are feeling ambitious, try making a 3-course meal and see who does what better. If that’s too much, stick with one main entree, and remember to sneak kisses and sip a glass of your favorite Cameron Hughes wine while your food’s cooking. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious meal together, preferably one that’s candlelit and romantic AF.
2. Order delivery and binge watch movies or a new TV series. There’s just something about eating takeout in your pjs while watching your favorite show – it’s gloriously gluttonous, but YOLO! My bf was visiting recently and we may or may not have done this two days in a row. In our defense, we only see each other once every 3 months or so. We got pizza on day 1 and Chinese on day 2 and drank glasses of Pinot Noir while watching season 1 of This Is Us. Tip: make sure your sofa is as comfortable as possible – soft blankets and pillows are an absolute must.
3. Pamper one another with an at-home spa night. Grab your favorite face mask post-bath and slather it on. Laugh at how silly you both look and take turns giving each other massages. Afterwards, have a glass of white while listening to soothing music to feel hella zen. I recommend Cameron Hughes’ chardonnay. Honestly, I don’t even like white wine, but I like theirs. Trust me when I say they’re the real deal!
4. Take a hike and have a picnic afterwards. This obviously depends on where you live, but the DMV’s ok for now! It was brutal last Friday, but it’s been fairly nice since then. Bundle up in cute workout gear with your boo and pack a yummy lunch to share. Finger foods work best IMO – think grapes, nuts, crackers, cheese, sandwiches and the like. Don’t forget to bring your furbaby along if they’re up for the activity and pack your favorite bottle of wine – just make sure you’re being responsible. 5. Go to a local museum and then go home for a wine and cheese night. Most museums in the DMV are free or cost very little. Some of my favorites are *drum roll please*:
- The Walters Art Museum (free admission): 600 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD
- The Baltimore Museum of Art (free admission): 10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore, MD
- The American Visionary Art Museum ($15.95 for adults/$9.95 for students): 800 Key Highway Baltimore, Maryland
- Geppi’s Entertainment Museum ($10 for adults/ $9 for students): 301 W. Camden Street, Baltimore, MD
- The Phillips Collection ($12 for adults/$10 for seniors): 1600 21st St. NW, Washington, DC
- The Renwick Gallery (free admission): Pennsylvania Avenue at 17th Street NW, Washington, DC
- The Smithsonian American Art Museum (free admission): 8th and F Streets, NW, Washington, DC
…yeah, what can I say? I love me a good museum. Those are just a few of my favorites! To find places near you, get your google on. I can pretty much guarantee you and your SO will find a cool place you both want to explore so go wild. Afterwards, come home and have a fun wine & cheese night – you guys can talk about your new favorite works of art while sophisticatedly sipping your drinks.
A HUGE thanks to Cameron Hughes Wine for sponsoring my latest! I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I love their wine. Like my awesome date ideas listed above, great wine doesn’t have to be expensive. With CH, you’re getting exceptional wine & extraordinary value. My go-tos are their lot 606 Cabernet Sauvignon ($29), their lot 576 Chardonnay ($14), and their lot 565 Pinot Noir ($15).
Their Cabernet was San Francisco Chronicle’s gold winner, and it’s a full but smooth wine that has clear blackberry and cassis notes. The Chardonnay is much lighter in comparison and has fruity undertones (think citrus and vanilla). You can also detect a hint of apple, which is refreshingly delicious! This wine’s their all time bestseller so I highly recommend giving it a try! Anddd last but not least, their pinot noir. At $15, this baby’s a total steal, and it’s wonderfully balanced with cherry, plum, and spice flavors. Make sure you guys get your shop on because you’ll be getting serious bang for your buck, especially since they’re giving you an additional 15% off your first order. As always, questions are welcome so shoot me a message if you want more info or additional cheap date ideas! Sending lots and lots of love from the DMV.
