I get WAY too many emails from people asking about photographers in the area so I decided to do a post featuring some of my favorite creatives. I’ve worked with everyone on this list so I can personally vouch for all of them – each and every one has incredible vision and impeccable professionalism so know that you’re in good hands regardless of who you end up working with. You just have to figure out what works best for your budget and what kind of style you’re going for.
I’ve known John for a REALLY long time because we went to school together. Him and his wife, Liz, are an amazing team, and they have a lot of experience with families (their baby shoots are seriously too cute), teens (for senior portraits), professionals (they do some really great headshots) and musicians. A lot of classical players ask me for photographer recs, and it’s always tricky because shooting promo materials for an artist is TOTALLY different from shooting a beauty or fashion editorial. John’s a musician himself so he knows exactly what kind of pics you’re looking for so definitely make sure to hit him up for rates if you want to spruce up your website. His aesthetic’s bright, airy and clean – click to peep his instagram for more!
Ayo’s perspective is straight fire, like his work belongs in Vogue. He’s as artsy as one can get so if you’re looking to hire someone to shoot bamf editorial work, you definitely need to reach out and see if you vibe. He captures the most interesting angles, and I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be enthralled by the richness of his images. Don’t believe me? Click here and see for yourself. I especially love what he does with bokeh!
Anthony calls himself “the best dressed photographer in DC,” and I can definitely stand behind that. He’s done a lot of work for businesses in the area and has also covered events for reputable publications like Capitol File Magazine. He’s a lifestyle blogger himself – with a strong focus on fashion – so if you’re an aspiring (or established) blogger looking for someone to work with, I highly recommend reaching out.
Jared’s one of my favorite photographers because he’s ridiculously talented, and he’s so much fun to work with! His pictures literally look like oil paintings, and his aesthetic is so distinct, you’ll be able to spot it a mile away. He does everything from vintage to boudoir, and he does them all so beautifully. He’s a great director as well so he’ll help you look your best whether you’re camera shy or a seasoned model. See more on his instagram!
Not only is Joe an exceptional photographer, he’s an amazing videographer (see an example we did below) as well. If you’re looking for someone who kills it with both stills AND video, he’s your guy. I’ve known him for a few years now, and he’s an extremely creative person who slays on the high fashion and beauty front. He works with a lot of hair and make up artists, and his editorial work is second to none. Peep his instagram account here!
This two-person team will keep you smiling from start to finish. Marcus and Dilano are true professionals that will go the extra mile to get the perfect shot. They have modeling experience themselves so they know exactly how to direct you in an articulate way without being intrusive. Their images have a very dreamy, otherworldly quality to them, and they ooze warmth through their softness. I would recommend them for portraits and editorial work.
If you’re looking for a dope wedding photographer in the DMV area, Melanie Yu is your girl. Her style’s light, airy, and feminine, and all of her pics are very well composed. She really thinks about the image as a whole on top of being OCD about details, and I mean that as a compliment by the way. She’s actually a part-time fashion blogger as well so she has a lot of experience working with clothes & accessories, which is a definite plus when covering weddings since those details are pretty darn important. You can see her recent work here on her photography account!
If you’re looking to shoot boudoir, you need to call Veronica stat. She is spectacular, in fact so much so that you need to book her months in advance because she’s that busy. She works with all kinds of body types and actively promotes body positivity so you’ll leave feeling confident and as sexy as can be. She’s also a very talented hair and make up artist so you can hire her to doll you up for your session beforehand. Check out her instagram to see more and message her here to learn more!
Anddd before I go, I have to throw this out there because I’m a hustler who’s always down to work even harder. If you’re looking for someone to cover your restaurant or anything food related, I’m your girl. I freelance as a food photographer so please don’t hesitate to reach out! You can see my work on my food blog, Nomtastic Foods, and/or my nom instagram.
Alright guys, that’s a wrap for today! I hope you enjoyed reading about some of the DMV’s finest photographers. I’m going to continue updating this list as I work with more people so definitely make sure to bookmark this post and check back. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m more than happy to address whatever concerns you may have.
