This piece is, hands down, one of the cutest work dresses I own. I picked this baby up at H&M the other day, and it was such a good call. It was $39.99 so it didn’t come cheap, but I have zero regrets because I know I’m going to get serious wear out of it. This checkered dress is made out of a woven fabric (a polyester, rayon, spandex blend to be exact) and has 3/4 length sleeves with flared cuffs. The star of the show, however, is the embellished swan detailing up front.
The model on hm.com is wearing this piece with matching pants, but I don’t feel the need to do so because it hits me right above the knee. Come winter, I’ll wear it with opaque tights, but that’s more for warmth than anything. To be honest, it all comes down to your height. They describe it a “short dress” on their website, but that’s obviously relative. I’m not super tall (about 5 foot 4 inches) so this dress is normal-length for me.
For today’s OOTD, I paired my new checkered dress with ankle-strap mesh heels and a burgundy crossbody for a pop of color. If you’re shy about wearing color to work but want to incorporate more of it into your wardrobe, start small. You don’t have to go all out, especially if you’re not big into brights! An easy and painless way to do so is to sport colorful jewelry. Brighten up a neutral outfit with a fabulous statement necklace. It goes with anything and everything so you’ll get ample wear out of it.
