Thank you Vacasa for sponsoring this post. Find your Vacasa home for the Summer today!
You guys have no idea how excited I am to partner up with Vacasa for my latest post. It’s summertime which means vacations galore. I’ve already traveled to Korea and Maine, and NYC’s up next. The only downside of it all? Not being able to see my furbaby everyday. She’s been in good hands, but I’m super attached to her so it’s tough, which is why I’m planning a dog vacation with her!
A lot of hotels don’t allow pets, which is why I’m stoked to have discovered Vacasa. They’re a full-service vacation rental company with over 13,000 homes across 30 states and 16 countries so suffice it to say, there’s a lot to choose from. I’m currently torn between Savannah, GA and Kissimmee, FL, but I’m learning towards the former since I’ve only been to Georgia once. What do you think guys?
Here are the three homes I’m looking at! I love that with Vacasa, every home goes above and beyond the highest standards, whether it be safety, cleanliness or comfort. Customer service is available 24/7 so they always got your back.
Aren’t they all gorgeous? Which one would you rent if it were up to you? Let me know by leaving a comment below. Anywho, checking in’s really easy! Vacasa uses smart locks and lock boxes so all you have to do is walk straight to the door and make yourself at home. Professional housekeepers make sure your rental’s clean and stocked before you come so you have fresh sheets and towels along with a starter kit with toiletries and paper products.
Now, Daisy’s not a huge fan of flying so we road trip everywhere. I honestly don’t know who has more luggage, ha! She’s diabetic so as a crazy dog mom I always overpack for her. That means extra syringes for her insulin, medicines and supplements, potty pads, several bowls, special diabetic kibble along with the chicken and veggie stew I make for her, treats, toys, her harness and leash, her dog bag, dog shampoo and towels.
I feel like most dogs love car rides, but Daisy’s particular. I don’t know what it is, but she’s a big scaredy cat! Here are some things I do to make our rides more comfortable and enjoyable:
- Strap her into her dog seat. Safety always comes first, and she loves the car seat I got for her so it’s a win-win. I lay her on top of her favorite blanket and throw in a toy so she feels at home.
- Take breaks often. I make frequent stops so she can stretch her legs and hydrate. Diabetic dogs tend to get thirsty more often than none so this is a biggie. I have a special dog water bottle for her when we’re on the go, but that’s me being extra – a simple bowl will suffice.
- Be mindful of meal time. This is especially important for diabetic dogs because they need insulin shots twice daily at specific times. Daisy always eats at 6:30AM & PM and gets shots at 7AM & PM so I schedule things around those times.
Now, this doesn’t have anything to do with car rides per se, but it’s really important to I wanted to share. Before you emBARK – haha, get it – on your dogcation, research Pet ERs in advance. God forbid something happens to your furbaby, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. I always make sure I have the contact info for the nearest clinic on me in case of emergencies, and I suggest you do the same.
On a lighter note, Vacasa sent me a box of summer travel essentials, and I wanted to show off my new swag. Here’s what I got: a new baseball hat, a travel journal + pen, a reusable straw (!!!!!) along with a new water bottle, luggage tags and a laptop case. I was excited…but I think Daisy was even more excited than I was.
