A few weeks back, I drove to Stroudsburg, PA to perform a concert with my bestie + superstar baritone Thomas Lehman. I was beyond pumped for the concert because the repertoire was incredible, andddd I knew hanging out was going to be epic. We had an awesome time rehearsing, eating anything and everything in sight, having heart-to-hearts, and all that good stuff…until I got locked out of my room. I know it sounds like nothing but trust me, it was hella dramatic at the time.
Let’s start with some background. The generous folks at Stroudsburg Uni let me stay on-campus in one of their fabulous guest rooms during my stay there. Although it was a beautiful space, the room was located in a hugeeee building that just so happened to be empty. Now, most people prefer the quiet, but I kept seeing scenes from “The Shining” in my head so I found myself in a bit of a pickle. Luckily, Tom was staying on campus too (in another dorm) so I ended up bunking with him – he was given a two bedroom suite so it wasn’t cramped or anything.
Everything was fine for the first 3 days, but on day 4, I got locked out of my room at around 11PM. We went to res life and asked for security, but we quickly found out that they couldn’t help us. They gave us a number to call, but the coordinator wasn’t available and we didn’t know when she would be back. I would’ve been more chill about the situation, but my gown, concert shoes and makeup were all locked inside, and I had to be dressed and ready to go by 5:30 the next day soooo yeah, cue the panic.
I thought I was screwed, until the ninja in me emerged (!!!!!) I went straight up to the door, channeled all of my energy and freaking forced it open. I have no idea how the hell I did it, but Tom was impressed, too. I spent the next hour calling all of my friends and telling them about my “ninja moment,” lol …I couldn’t do it a second time though! I tried several times, but no dice. I guess my adrenaline helped me out? Who knows! I’m just glad I was able to get back into my room. Anywho, that’s it for today! Do any of you have fun stories to share?
