In honor of halloween, I’ve decided to share my scariest ghost story with you guys. I’ve experienced some weird sh*t in my lifetime, but this experience definitely takes the cake. I did my undergrad at the Peabody Institute of Music, and it’s been around for 150+ years so there’s a ton of history there. Back when I was a froshie, my teacher gave me a key to her studio in the conservatory so I could practice on a good piano whenever her room was free. I spent numerous evenings working until 1-2 AM, and I was usually one of the only students there, which was kind of scary but also nice at the same time.
One night, I finished real late and was waiting for the elevator, but it didn’t come. I was there for a good 10-15 minutes, but I got tired of waiting so I decided to take the stairs. I kept my head down as I walked because I was exhausted and didn’t feel like saying hi to anyone. To my surprise, I passed someone on my way back to the dorms. I didn’t see what she looked like though – all I remember is dark hair and a ponytail.
The conservatory staircase is designed in a spiral and has a ridiculous amount of reverb, like my footsteps sound like smashing gongs in that space. I realized that I didn’t hear a second set of steps and froze. I looked up to see if the girl was there, but she was GONE (!!!!) Cue the freakout. I peaced out of there SO fast. I ran back to my room and just sat at my desk. The air was off and the window was closed, and I called my parents to tell them what happened. As I was recounting my tale, I felt a HUGE gust of wind in my room. Repeat: my air was off and my window was closed.
Suffice it to say, I slept with the lights ON that night. Now, fast forward 2 days. I was still afraid, but I needed to work so I searched for a practice room on the 2nd floor of the supposedly non-haunted building, ha. As I was looking for a room, I saw a group of 4 girls chatting excitedly in the reflection of a window. I didn’t know who they were, but I thought I recognized the girl with her back to me! She had a ponytail and looked like the woman I walked past on the spiral staircase (!!!) You guys have NO idea how relieved I was…until I turned around and ONLY SAW 3 GIRLS STANDING THERE. Yeah, it was a huge WTF moment, not gonna lie. I thought I was seeing things so I decided to approach them and ask if there was a fourth girl. They looked at me like I was a crazy person and said no.
Yeah, I never saw that girl again, but that was definitely a creepy experience. Many students and faculty members there have stories of their own. Like my buddy who was running through his concert program at Goodwin Hall (one of the big halls at Peabody) after class. He finished playing and “someone” started clapping. He thought a friend was messing with him so he searched the entire hall, but no one was there. FYI, the hall was locked from the inside so it’s not like anyone could get in. Or my friend who was practicing late until the AM and heard someone singing right next door. She went out to say hello because she thought it was a colleague, but she was the only one in the hall. I seriously could go on and on and on. I have no doubt in my mind that Peabody (or parts of Peabody) is haunted. Do any of you guys have a ghost story you want to share? If yes, comment below to tell me about it.
Anywho, I’m going to very abruptly change the subject and talk fashion because we still have an OOTD to address, ha. Today’s look features two fab new pieces from Stitchfix: a printed ruffle dress and a denim jacket. The dress was steep at $78, but the jacket was more reasonable at $48. Neither were bargain buys, but I splurged because I was looking for cute new pieces to style. I paired them together for my latest because, well, little’s better than denim + floral combos. I didn’t wear any jewelry, but I carried my studded Violet Ray tote and threw on Valentino-inspired shoes from Oasap to spice things up. What do you guys think of this ensemble – yah or nah?
