It’s time for another small business spotlight. For today’s post, I’m over the moon excited to tell you guys about Kallie & Co. Owner Nadia Martinez grew up in a small village in Mexico and immigrated to the states in her teens. Although she’s currently based in San Diego, her business definitely reflects her roots.
She first started Kallie & Co in 2014 because she needed a “portable” business she could do anywhere. Her husband was a US Marine so they moved often. She wanted to find a way to give back to the Mexican community, which she did by creating fair labor for artisans.
To be honest, I’m not a flats kind of girl, but there are a handful of styles I really, REALLY love online at Kallie & Co. There are currently 17 different shoes available for purchase, but I highly recommend the following: the Sabeenah, the Natalia and the Charlotte.
Before we get into detail regarding the aforementioned pieces, know that their entire collection is handcrafted. The Sabeenah and Charlotte are basically the same style, just different colors. The former’s light bone, and the latter’s black.
They’re both super stylish oxfords made of faux patent leather with perforated accents at the toe and throat. They’re unnaturally lightweight – and I mean that in the best way possible – and they look great dressed up and down. Pair them with cuffed boyfriend jeans or the girliest summer mini for a fashionable look that will undoubtedly impress.
The Natalia are animal print flats, and they’re listed because I find them to be uber versatile. Whether you want to wear them to work or to everyday errands, they will add personality to any and every ensemble. A pop of print makes all the difference in the world, and this is an easy way to experiment with bold patterns if you’re worried about looking gaudy.
See more of their collection here, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. On top of being cruelty-free and fair trade, Kallie & Co also donates shoes to women in need in both the United States and Africa so you can feel good about supporting them since you’re in essence giving back to the community.
Alright friends, that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading all about Kallie & Co.
