It’s been a while since I last updated you guys on everything so let’s do that today. November’s been ridiculously busy but fun. I’ve gone to so many awesome events, restaurant tastings, and hangs, but unfortunately, it’d take me freaking FOREVER to list them all so I’m just going to share a few highlights.
Nomming hardcore at DC Dosa…
I love, love, LOVE Union Market. The space is always poppin’, and there are so many amazing food options available. I met up with Danny Kim aka DCFoodGang for an influencer dinner at DC Dosa and had an absolute blast. Who knew vegan food could be so good? They brought out an obscene amount of food – which was totally ok with me BTW – and I honestly enjoyed it all.
If you’re unfamiliar with dosas, think of them as savory Indian crepes! So, here’s how it works. You pick your dosa base, add fillings and then get whatever chutneys you want. I tried 3 out of their 5 bases and they were all nomtastic: mung lentil (whole mung lentil, ginger, cumin and red chilies), petite yellow lentil (yellow lentil, fresh ginger, and red chilies), and white lentil (fermented white lentil and rice).
They brought out all different kinds of combos, but my fave fillings were the curry potatoes and eggplant & sweet potatoes. Then, I slathered chutney on everything. I sampled their cilantro sesame, mango habanero, and onion tamarind, and they were all equally delicious. I also got to try their sambar soup (traditional lentil soup with turnips, carrots, onions, and green peppers) and 2 different lassis. Guys, the sweet basil and mango lassis were stupid good so def. make sure to buy one (…or both, ha) with your meal. One ginormous dosa costs $9, and you can get a hearty bowl of soup for an extra $2.
Heidi Klotzman’s epic event at Hanover Cross Street…
Um, I had no idea baller housing like this even existed in Baltimore. My good friend, Heidi Klotzman, is a total boss and promoted Nevins PR’s grand opening of Hanover Cross Street. There was an open bar, tons of food, hoards of beautiful people and the Sam Grow band provided entertainment for the evening. I didn’t tour the apartments themselves, but their building amenities were off the hook, like they had private movie theaters with comfy chairs and giant HD screens. I’d totally be ok with living there, ha. Anywho, she has a bunch of exciting events coming up in December so I’m really excited. Keep an eye out for recaps, frands!
A cozy weekend with my handsome hapa manfriend…
As you guys know, I’ve been in a long distance relationship for quite some time now! I talked about my LDR here not too long ago, but yeah, I was REALLY excited to see the boyf since it’s been over 3 months. It was only for a few days, but a few days are better than no days, right? Ha. We both shut our computers off and chilled hardcore! We ordered in for every meal and binge-watched This is Us while cuddling. I wish he could’ve stayed longer, but we both have mad sh*t to do so it’s probably for the best. Distance is a pain, but there ARE advantages to LDRs, at least from a productivity standpoint. What do you guys think – would you be able to do distance or nah?
Bought the cutest work-friendly dress ever to have existed…
As a self-proclaimed professional dress collector, I couldn’t help but purchase this chic purple number from ASOS. Although top + bottom combos are more sensible – I say more “sensible” because you can remix the crap out of them – I love me a good dress. This piece is made of a lightweight crepe material and has kimono sleeves, a bow waist tie, and a wrap skirt. I especially like it because it’s super comfy yet figure flattering – it gives me an exaggerated hourglass shape, which I’m totally cool with =P Available for purchase online – it’s definitely not THE most affordable thing I’ve featured on here, but it’s still under $100 so it’s fair game in my book. A huge thanks to Sung Shin for shooting these pics for me at the Remy.
Trying Ethiopian food for the first time & exploring Femme Fatale with Whitney Stringer PR…
I don’t actually remember when I first met Whitney, but we connected over ridiculously yummy wings at DCity Smokehouse. BTW if you haven’t tried their food yet, you seriously need to go STAT because their noms are obscenely good, so good that I featured them on the food blog I co-founded! So, I bring up wings because we got another order at Etete, a fabulous Ethiopian restaurant located in the Shaw District, and THEY WERE AMAZING, TOO! I’m just going to call Whitney “wing lady” from here on out because every time I go somewhere with her, I end up getting mind blowing wings. Like, I’m not even playing with you guys. The wings at Etete and DCity were the BEST I’ve ever had…IN MY LIFE. Anywho, I covered the meal on Nomtastic Foods today (with lots of droolworthy pics) so make sure to check it out!
Afterwards, we drove to Femme Fatale DC, a womyn-only collective featuring local creatives and entrepreneurs, to work off our food babies. I didn’t end up buying anything, but the space was REALLY cool. I highly recommend checking them out, especially if you’re looking to purchase cool gifts for peeps during the holiday season! They’re located on 100 Florida Avenue NE for those of you interested. I was actually surprised to find a pop-up like this in the DMV – it was very eclectic, artsy and hip, and it made me feel like I was back in NYC. Try some of their vegan soul food and attend one of their yoga classes and/or movie nights for a fun night out with frands.
Boozin’ and schmoozin’ at Trunk Club…
I already recapped this event for you guys on SS, but I wanted to throw in a short blurb about it just in case you missed the aforementioned post! I met up with a couple of my friends to check out their invite-only holiday soiree and had a fabulous time. The mixologist there created two signature drinks for the event, and they were both super nom. We sipped on them while “shopping” around! They generously let us choose 3 different things to go home with, and I ended up getting a backpack for my bf, cool gold adidas shoes for myself, and a fit bit…for myself, ha. #TreatYoself! Anywho, that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading my highlights from November. What have you guys been up to this month? And BTW, don’t forget to check out my Black Friday sales compilation. I released last night and will be updating it all throughout the weekend so bookmark & check back! I’m also working on a Cyber Monday sale post so keep an eye out – that’ll go live Sunday at midnight.
Your month seems busy but productive! Glad to read some of the cool places you visited in November. Some of these areas caught my attention. 🙂
