Soooo better late than never right? Last month, I had the pleasure of checking out Junction Bakery with my bestie Sung, and we fell head over heels in love with Chef Jonni Scott’s food. Before I even get into noms though, did you guys know she’s only 22? Ok, so obviously there’s no way you’d know that, but what the hell was I doing with my life at 22? Ha. She’s this wildly successful chef heading this incredible bakery, and I am so, SO impressed.
If you ever find yourself in Alexandria, or if you live in DC and want to venture out – and by “venture,” I mean like drive 20 minutes – definitely come and indulge. The food here is delicious, and her pastries are so beautiful, you could cry. The space itself is really pretty as well so it’s perfect for a coffee date!
Ah yes, just look at this spread. I hope you’re jealous and drooling because these really were the bomb.com. I mean, have you ever seen prettier pastries? Sung took close-up shots of each one so you’ll see them all below!
Only food could make me feel this way, ha. Can you blame me though? I went HAM on that dark chocolate croissant.
Let the foodporn viewing commence. We’re gonna start off with two of my favorite sweets, her butterscotch eclair and her quadruple chocolate cookies. I don’t even know where to start with the eclair. I’m not even big into butterscotch, and I loved this dessert, like I legit couldn’t stop eating.
Just look at that gorgeous cross section. I don’t know how many different flavors she has, but all I know is that they will be in my belly soon. In fact, I’m planning my next trip as I write this! My mom loves baked goods, and she has a serious sweet tooth so I’m gonna take her.
These cookies were really unique. I’ve never had anything quite like them so I recommend getting one to try because YOLO! I think they have toffee in them, but I’m not completely sure. To be honest, they’re not the best cookies I’ve ever had – just because I prefer soft and gooey – but they’re still really tasty and worth the $ in my opinion. They’re harder, and it’s difficult to describe them, but they’re like the candy version of cookies. I know that sounds weird, but you’ll see what I mean when you try it for yourself.
Let’s move onto pastry porn! Friends, meet Chef Jonni’s everything croissant. This was spectacular, and honestly one the best croissants I’ve ever had. If you enjoy everything bagels, you NEED to give this baby a try. Imagine an everything bagel except buttery, light, flaky and 10000x better.
Her beautiful almond croissant.
Two cappuccinos because you can’t eat pastries without coffee! These were lovely, and they had nice latte art, which we appreciated.
And my personal favorite, her chocolate croissant. If you’re set on only getting one, get her everything croissant, but if you’re a fatty like me and want to try two (… or more), get this as well! If you follow me on instagram, you probably saw me dig into this baby on my stories – the crunch was unreal. Don’t just take my word for it though – go and try one yourself!
And one last food feature before I leave you guys for the day. This is Chef Jonni’s Country biscuit, and it’s everything good in life. If you’re in the mood for something a bit heavier, you need to try this breakfast sammy. It comes on a made-from-scratch cheddar-chive biscuit and contains sausage, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese (!!!!) its probably not the healthiest thing you could eat, BUT it comes with a side of fruit so that makes it ok, ha. If you go for lunch, their Cubano’s an absolute must-try. Yep, you can thank me after your tummy’s happy and full.
So, what did you guys think of Junction Bakery? What stood out to you and do you prefer savory or sweet in general? Definitely let me know by leaving a comment below, friends.
