When I found out Matchbox opened a location in downtown Silver Spring, I obviously had to drag Sung there to try their unlimited brunch. For $28.50, you can get whatever your heart desires. They have a large selection of dishes and pizzas to choose from, but drinks come at an additional cost. Signature bloodies, bubblies and cocktails are an extra $10.50, but they have 3 standard brunch cocktails (mimosas, peach bellinis, and bloody marys) that are only $3 each.
Must-try plates are as follows: their biscuits + gravy, shrimp + grits, arancini and lemon pound cake french toast. I obviously didn’t get to try everything, but these were my favorite non-pizza highlights. They do a mean arancini so that should definitely be on your list whether you go for brunch or dinner. Try to go with a group of people so you can try different things. Yes, it’s unlimited but don’t go overboard and waste a ton of food. These plates were on the smaller side, and I loved that because it allowed me to order a variety of items.
Sung and I got 3 different pizzas to share: their brunch pizza, their pepperoni, and their seasonal special, lobster diavolo. The latter’s not included in the deal so you’ll have to pay extra. I’ve always loved their pies though so as expected, they were on point. You choose from 8 different options including favorites like matchbox meat, fire + smoke and holy grail margherita.
The brunch pizza was interesting. I’m not usually a fan of breakfast pies, but this was solid. It was topped with sausage, spanish onions, smoked gouda, scrambled eggs, pico de gallo and chipotle sour cream. Would I get it again? Probably not, but only because I love fire + smoke so much. Do try it at least once though!
Matchbox has several locations in the DMV – and actually, one restaurant in Texas – and they all do unlimited brunch! Be sure to let me know what you think when you go. If you want to see more on food, make sure you check out this tab. And before I let you go, a huge thanks to Sung Shin for the wonderful macro photography! Until next time, friends.
