Oh my god, guys. I told you that I was going to take full advantage of life, and I freaking meant it! I recently got to attend BYUtv’s taping of Gladys Knight + Friends with blogger babe La Belle Mel, and it seriously blew my mind. I’ve never been a huge fan of motown music, but when I got invited to hear Smokey Robinson, Patti Labelle, Yolanda Adams, and Gladys Knight live, I jumped at the opportunity. It was filmed at the Lincoln Theatre in DC, and the performance was private since it was being taped live. The artists sang a medley of holiday tunes and gospel songs to celebrate togetherness and good cheer. I still can’t get over how amazing they all were.
Patti Labelle & Gladys Knight singing a beautiful duet above, while Yolanda Adams kills it below.
In addition to the legends mentioned above, Gladys Knight featured several young soloists as well. I can’t remember the name of the boy on the right (he was fab though), but the beautiful girl on the left is Aaliyah Rose. If she looks familiar, it’s because she’s a YT sensation & was a competitor on The Voice. They sang a duet together and were later joined by other kids to perform a song as a group.
A big, BIG thank you to BYUtv for having me as their guest, and a shoutout to Sara Nelson for being so amazing. Funny story though (and a prime example of my anxiety), the concert was supposed to end at 9:30; I parked at a nearby lot, but the lady there told me that they closed at 9. She assured me that she’d wait for me to get back though, as long as it was REALLY 9:30. However, when I got there, I noticed that my ticket said 7:30-10:30 so naturally I freaked the eff out because she told me she’d have my car towed if I came late. I didn’t think the woman would wait an extra hour for me so I got up before the concert started – they were running really late at that point – and looked for street parking.
I was hoping the performance hadn’t started, but of course it did. We ended up squeezing past everyone to get back to our seats. Le sigh. Not proud of my concert etiquette, but I don’t think anyone really cared. Am I the only one with parking anxiety? I always freak out when I leave my car out on the street. I always feel like I’m going to walk back to a ticket, but that’s just my paranoia talking, ha.
Now, onto my featured OOTD! Today’s look is just the right amount of sexy thanks to my new dress. This fabulous piece is also available in crimson for those of you interested. It’s made of polyester, but it feels and looks like chiffon. This number didn’t come cheap – it is For Love & Lemons, after all – but I decided to take the plunge (literally) because of its flattering fit. It cinches my waist comfortably, and I don’t have to suck anything in because it’s an a-line silhouette. It originally $229, but it’s currently on sale for $99.99 online at Off Saks.
I paired my new dress with a chic jacket from JoH Apparel. Isn’t the color to die for? I don’t know (or care) if rust is “in” right now, but it’s seriously one of my favorite colors. I just recently found out about this brand, and I am flipping the eff out because I want to buy everything they sell. Run, don’t walk because this piece is currently on sale for $68, and it is THE best $68 you’ll spend this season. Seriously, it’s THE must-have jacket for fall. It looks great dressed up, down, sideways, whatever, anddd you’re welcome in advance. Note: it’s slightly oversized so keep that in mind if you’re looking to get one for yourself.
Re-styling my favorite earrings from Trades of Hope because they’re all sorts of cute. Purchase a pair to look incredible while supporting a noble cause aka a total win-win. These are called the Yasmine, but the Athena and the dazzling stud earrings are also really beautiful.
