If you’re jetting off soon, you’re probably already thinking about packing your suitcase. Picking out the right outfits to take and when you’ll wear them can be half the fun, and you’ll probably want to get started as soon as you book your flight and hotel.
As your vacation draws near, it’ll be time to start giving everything serious thought and get things prepared and ready to go. There’s no such thing as planning too early for this type of thing because you don’t want to forget something important and realize it once you get there.
Which Suitcase Should You Take?
One of the first decisions you’ll need to make is which suitcase you’re going to take. You’ll need to consider a few factors. Firstly, the length of time you’ll be away for is a significant issue. The next factor to think about is if you are flying or not. Airline weight restrictions can be a headache, and the weight of your case will take away from everything that you will want to put inside. Therefore, you will want the lightest case possible.
Don’t forget, that baggage handlers can often be a little rough with suitcases. After all, they need to move hundreds of suitcases in a matter of minutes when the plane lands. This means that your case may well get knocked about. You will, therefore, want to get a sturdy case that can handle getting bashed.
Make sure you find out your overall baggage allowances, and you will need to get a set of suitcase scales so that you can weigh them before setting off. There is nothing worse than getting to the airport and finding out that you are over because no one wants to pay those hefty fees.
Make a List
You will need to make a comprehensive list. Think about all of the items that you may need wherever you are going. This may include suncream, after-sun, and mosquito repellant. There will be staple items that you will need to include such as hairdryers, straighteners and the like. Think about buying travel versions that will be lighter to carry in your case.
Check out the restrictions that your airline may have on liquids and electrical items that you can carry on your flight. If you need to, buy travel-sized toiletries. You should also stock up on items such as paracetamol that you just may need while you are on holiday. If you plan on reading by the poolside, you may want to think about taking a kindle instead of books as they are much lighter and easier to carry.
Picking The Right Clothes To Take
You will be picking the clothes that you are going to take based on where in the world you are going to. If you are off to colder climes you will want to take thicker items of clothing. Be aware that this will affect your weight limits, so be sure and wear heavier items such as jeans and jackets to travel in. Look at packing items that you can wear more than once. If you have any outfits that work well during the day, and into the evening, then include these. Remixing’s your friend so try to get max wears from everything you pack. Think of it as a fun style challenge of sorts!
You Are On Vacation, So Look Your Best
Why NOT take your fanciest outfits? You’re on vacation so go all out, which means you should be dressing up and living your best life. Think about taking your most beautiful clothing and really make the effort while you are away.
Deciding Which Shoes To Take
It might be tempting to throw in lots of different shoes. Be practical though because they add a lot of weight to your suitcase. Aim to travel in your heaviest shoes so that you don’t have to pack them.
Take a minute to figure out what shoes you’re really going to wear, if it is going to be a relaxing break, you probably don’t need several pairs of heels. Maybe bring one pair of heels, and stick with flats or sandals for the rest of your trip.
Wear Your Jewelry On The Flight
This is an absolute must. If you have anything of “real” value, make sure that it’s in your carryon. Wear all of your jewelry (if it makes sense to do so) so that it doesn’t go missing in the event that your baggage doesn’t turn up on the carousel.
Packing The Suitcase
When it comes to getting all of your items inside your case you need to think practically. Pushing everything in together may make it harder for you to close the case. Rolling your clothes up is the best way to fit more inside your suitcase so get your Marie Kondo on. It also means that you won’t get any nasty creases down your garments.
Stuff smaller items inside your shoes and fill your handbags. Make sure you leave no corner of your suitcase empty. You will need to be very savvy with space to fit everything in.
Don’t Forget These Essential Items
Before you go, make sure you have your passport along with any visas that you may need. Make sure you have taken out travel insurance and checked with your phone provider to make sure your calls will be covered by your contract when you are overseas.
