Whether you want to pamper yourself with spa services or enjoy the great outdoors with your furry companion, Salamander Resort is the perfect place to go for R&R in the DMV area. Located in the heart of Middleburg, Virginia, they have everything from life size chess to a full equestrian center. Wander into town to browse charming boutiques or drive to one of their many local wineries to enjoy a glass of vino on the green.
Get Serious R&R In Your Bougie Room
I got to stay in their dressage suite during my trip, and it was absolutely wonderful. There was a separate living area, which was nice, and the bedroom was spacious and comfy. The bathroom was just as large as the aforementioned rooms, and it oozed luxurious with its regal tub and shower.
I took Daisy, my adorable maltese pup, along with me so my room was on the first floor otherwise known as the pet-friendly floor. It was really convenient because I had a patio, and I could just take her outside from my suite.
Each room has hypoallergenic bed linens and thick terry-cloth bathrobes. There are coffee and tea-making facilities along with a full bar, an iPod docking station, daily newspaper delivery and a multi-line telephone with voicemail and conference call capabilities. They also offer turn down service twice daily and give you complimentary water along with the most delicious pecan and butterscotch scones so prepare to indulge. I swear, those mini scones are to die for.
Fun Things to do at the Salamander Resort
As mentioned above, there’s no shortage of things to do at Salamander. They have “standard” resort activities like hiking, tennis, basketball, swimming and biking, but they also have falconry, disc golf, ziplining, and archery on top of other family-friendly activities that take place on the regular. Make sure you check their calendar to stay on top of fun things to do both in town and at the resort.
Indulge in a wonderful breakfast at Harriman’s
I haven’t been to Gold Cup Wine Bar yet, but Harriman’s and Market Salamander were both fantastic. I had an incredible breakfast at the former and purchased some delectable baked goods to go at the latter. My only regret is missing Harriman’s dinner service, which means I need to go back ASAP.
Breakfast was perfection. My mom and I started our meal off with monkey bread and mixed berries, and although I loved their warm, pull-apart carb goodness, I’m ordering the fresh baked pastry basket next time because I’m a sucker for muffins and danishes…and their butterscotch pecan scone is obscene.
Entrees were sublime. Their shrimp & grits was the best I’ve ever had, and their avocado toast was exceptional. You can’t go wrong with either so get whatever you’re in the mood for. The shrimp & grits came with four succulent jumbo sized pieces, and the grits had a coarse but enjoyable texture that was packed with flavor. To die for, really.
The avo toast was a toad in the hole, topped with maitake mushroom and a fried quail egg. The bread looked thick to the eye, but it was light and fluffy, and the yolk inside helped soften the bread.
Honestly, their entire menu just sounded amazing, and I wish I could’ve tried more. Definitely make sure you guys head to Salamander Resort soon to pamper yourselves because YOLO. Splurge on spa treatments, food, activities and more. If you guys have any questions about my experience, don’t be shy – feel free to reach out whenever. I promise I’m always happy to hear from you!
