Hey friends! I hope you all had a lovely December. I thought about writing a yearly recap featuring accomplishments and the like, but I’m going to pass on that this year. Instead, I’m posting fun highlights like I always do so let’s get to it.
Getting R&R at the Salamander Resort
So funny story, this was actually my second time at Salamander. I wasn’t there as a guest the first time ’round though! I was still dating Robby (@scenicpath) so this was a while back – maybe 1.5-2 years ago?
We met up with @eatgfree and @dcfoodporn at Middleburg, VA for an epic meal at La Table Provencale. We had time to kill before our dinner reservation though, and it was raining like crazy so we crashed the Salamander resort and played Scrabble for hours, lol. What can I say? We’re party animals!
This time, I went as press, and I took my mom and pup along with me. I absolutely loved staying there, and I highly recommend it if you’re looking to get some serious R&R in the DMV.
It’s definitely a splurge though so expect to spend moolah while you’re there. They have a world class spa along with crazy resort activities like ziplining, falconry and archery. Everything there’s first class though – the food at Harriman’s is amazing, and the accommodations are elegant yet comfortable.
I recommend going during the Spring or Fall to take advantage of the various wineries nearby. For more on my stay, make sure to check out the full recap here.
A Fun Workshop with DCFoodPorn
A few weeks back, I partnered up with Justin to give a fun social media/food photography workshop at the new Capital One cafe in Georgetown. I don’t know if you guys have checked the space out yet, but it’s absolutely beautiful. They sell Peet’s coffee and pastries from local joints like Baked & Wired so you can grab a delish snack while you work.
Our presentation was about an hour long and that included a Q&A. This is the first workshop I’ve given in a while. I hosted one a long time ago but stopped after having problems with a stalker. This person, I don’t even know if it was a guy or a girl, would apparently follow me around and post my exact location…for months.
I found out about it when a follower DM’d me with a forum link. It had everything from my home address to restaurants and places I had been along with times and info about what I was wearing. Yeah, super scary. Luckily, I haven’t experienced anything like that in a while though. Sorry guys, that got dark real fast. Moral of the story? Always be alert and avoid posting things in real time if you can.
Feed a Bee x Sur La Table’s Cooking Class in Arlington
If you follow me on instagram, you already know that I’m pretty good with Korean food. I’ve been cooking with my mom ever since I was a little girl so I can hold my own, but I never really learned how to make anything else. I relied on takeout, delivery Chinese food, and cup noodz during my college days then did a complete 180 and ate as clean as can be while at Juilliard.
I’ve been doing more in the kitchen as of late since I have a little more time on my hands, but it’s mostly healthy stuff because I’m trying to get back in shape. So, Feed a Bee x Sur La Table’s latest event was extra fun because I got to cook something I would’ve probably never made otherwise: a creole-style jambalaya. For more on the event, check out my full write-up for Nomtastic Foods.
Seeing My First Play at the Everyman Theater
Don’t ask me why it took me so long to get here because I don’t have a good answer for you. When blogger bestie, La Belle Mel, told me her beau was starring in their latest production, Murder on the Orient Express, I obviously had to go and support. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much in terms of the set – and that’s obviously the old NY art snob in me, shame – but I was really, really impressed with the entire production.
The cast was phenomenal, and the show was suspenseful but funny at the same time. They had me on the edge of my seat the entire second act so the comical elements really helped me breathe. The show’s running until January 11th so make sure you guys go and see it while you can. If you can’t make it, be sure to catch the next one. I’m not sure what’s scheduled after this, but chances are, you’ll probably see me there opening night.
A Holiday Shoot with Jared Wolfe Photography
I shared a couple pics from this shoot on instagram, but I haven’t published any posts with his photos yet. I was planning to get them all up before the new year, but my family decided to visit last minute, and I wanted to spend time with them sooooo yeah. The older I get, the more I realize how important quality time is with them. As a hustlin’ girl boss, it’s tough to put work on pause, but they’ll always come first.
Alright friends, that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading about my December. If you missed last month’s recap, click here, and stay tuned for new content heading your way. Remember, I post every Monday, Thursday and Saturday so check back soon. Until next time! Sending all the love from MD.
